What is the NHS?

March 2, 2011

I think that one of the problems this discussion has high-lighted is that although people are very protective of the NHS (which makes politicians think very hard before changing it), unfortunately not many of them have much idea of how it actually works. This means that as long as politicians keep the name “NHS” they can change it in pretty much anyway they want and most people won’t even realise until its too late. Fundamentally the NHS is just the name of the State-run Healthcare System in this country, but with the introduction of out-sourcing to private healthcare companies that clear-cut concept went out the window. So we are left with the question: What is the NHS? Is it a bird? A plane? Or just another brand?
